Terms of Service
Pre-release draft · Last updated October 4, 2026
These terms describe the current pre-release Verba app and website. App Store purchase availability and final purchase conditions depend on the offer shown at checkout.
1. About these terms
Verba helps you learn vocabulary, create wordlists, obtain translations and pronunciation information, and discover relevant words. These terms describe the responsibilities associated with using the Verba app and website.
For an App Store version, the app licence is subject to Apple’s Standard End User Licence Agreement, unless a separate custom licence is provided at distribution. These service terms do not replace that licence, Apple’s purchase rules, or rights that applicable law does not allow us to exclude.
2. Your account
Keep your sign-in credentials secure and use an email address you can access. Your display name may be a nickname; you do not need to provide your legal name. Do not impersonate someone else or access another person’s account without permission. Contact us if you suspect unauthorised access.
You must have the legal capacity or legally required authorisation to use the service. The minimum registration age and any required parental-consent process have not yet been finalised. This draft does not authorise registration contrary to applicable child-protection or privacy law.
3. Acceptable use
Use Verba lawfully and respect other people’s rights. Do not:
- Upload or share material that infringes intellectual property, privacy, or other legal rights.
- Use the service for harassment, fraud, spam, or unlawful activity.
- Attempt to bypass access controls, subscription restrictions, or usage limits.
- Interfere with the service, extract other users’ information, or overload its infrastructure.
These restrictions do not prevent activities that applicable law or an open-source licence expressly permits.
4. Your wordlists and shared links
You retain any rights you have in the content you submit. You allow us to store, synchronise, display, and process that content as needed to provide the features you use, including translations and word suggestions. This permission does not transfer ownership of your content to us. Personal-data processing is described in our Privacy Policy.
Anyone with a wordlist sharing link may view its shared content or import a copy. Do not include confidential information or content you are not entitled to share. Editing or deleting the original list does not automatically update shared content. Contact us to request removal of a shared link; we cannot recall copies already saved by recipients.
5. Translations and learning materials
Translations, generated suggestions, definitions, and pronunciation information can contain errors, ambiguity, or unsuitable examples. Dictionary pronunciation may differ from pronunciation in context. Check important material against reliable sources and report errors to us.
Verba is an educational tool, not a professional translation service or medical, legal, or other specialist adviser. We do not promise a particular learning outcome or that every result will be accurate.
6. Free access, Plus, and bonus codes
Free access and Plus provide different features and usage allowances. Applicable limits and available features are shown in the app. A bonus code may grant temporary Plus access under the duration and redemption conditions communicated for that code. A bonus code does not itself authorise a recurring payment.
If Plus access expires, free-plan restrictions may apply again. Some existing wordlists or words may become inaccessible under those restrictions; restricted access is not the same as deletion of the stored content.
Paid App Store subscriptions are not yet finalised for public release. Before a paid subscription is offered, the purchase screen must state its price, duration, included features, any trial conditions, and renewal and cancellation terms. This draft does not establish a price, trial, or billing commitment.
Where an auto-renewing subscription is offered through Apple, the purchase screen and Apple's confirmation state its price, billing period and any introductory conditions. Renewal continues unless cancelled under Apple's applicable terms. Subscription changes, cancellations and refunds are handled through Apple, subject to mandatory consumer rights. Selecting a different plan in Verba does not itself complete a purchase or confirm its effective date.
Deleting Verba or your account does not cancel an Apple subscription. Manage renewal through Apple's subscription settings. A bonus code is not a subscription cancellation or a promise to defer Apple billing; any store purchase is governed by the terms shown at checkout.
7. Availability and changes
Maintenance, connectivity problems, service-provider outages, and software faults may interrupt Verba. We cannot promise uninterrupted access. Features may change as the app develops.
Material changes to these terms or paid-service commitments should be communicated before taking effect, with any notice, consent, cancellation, or refund rights required by law. Changes must not retrospectively remove mandatory rights.
8. Closing or restricting an account
You may stop using Verba at any time and request account deletion in the app's settings. After confirmation, a 24-hour cancellation period begins. Sign in before the deadline and explicitly cancel deletion in the prompt or settings if you change your mind. Signing in alone does not cancel deletion. Once processing begins, it cannot be cancelled and completion may take additional time.
The same account-deletion process applies whether or not you have Plus access. Account deletion does not wait for your subscription to end and does not cancel store billing. The Privacy Policy explains data handling and separately retained information. For assistance, contact hello@verba.study.
Access may be restricted where reasonably necessary to address unlawful use, a serious breach of these terms, or a security threat. Where lawful and practical, we will explain the reason and provide a way to contact support. Restrictions do not override applicable consumer rights.
9. Intellectual property and dictionary sources
Verba’s branding, interface, and software remain subject to their respective owners’ intellectual-property rights. Your content and third-party materials retain their own rights and licences.
Chinese pinyin uses CC-CEDICT, maintained by the CC-CEDICT community and distributed by MDBG, under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International.
Verba uses modified CC-CEDICT data for pronunciation information. Adapted dictionary data remains available under CC BY-SA 4.0. This licence applies to that dictionary data, not automatically to Verba's separate software or branding. Nothing in these terms restricts rights granted by the licence.
Some pronunciation information is derived from Wiktionary contributors, including data made available by Kaikki. These extracts have been selected and reformatted for Verba. Applicable attribution and share-alike rights remain governed by the source's licensing terms, including CC BY-SA 4.0 where applicable; third-party material may have separate terms.
10. Responsibility and legal rights
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Verba is provided on an “as available” basis, without a promise that it will meet every individual requirement. This does not exclude statutory guarantees or remedies.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for fraud, intentional misconduct, or other protected claims. Your mandatory consumer and privacy rights remain unaffected.
The governing-law and dispute-resolution provisions require review before release. This draft does not impose compulsory arbitration, an exclusive foreign court, or a waiver of your right to seek remedies available under applicable law. Please contact us first if you have a concern; doing so is not a condition for exercising your legal rights.
11. Service provider and contact
Verba is operated by Vitalii Lutsiv (Луців Віталій), an individual based in Ukraine, not an incorporated company. Any additional provider details required for the final distribution markets must be completed before release.
